Samaritan Hospital — Emergency Department
The nearest 24/7 emergency room to Speigletown, part of St. Peter's Health Partners. In any life-threatening emergency call 911 first. Main hospital line: 518-271-3300.

Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad (Ambulance / EMS)
The ambulance service that answers when Speigletown calls 911: advanced life support coverage for the whole Town of Schaghticoke, 24 hours a day, every day, since 1959. An independent non-profit (Rensselaer County Station 53), not a town department, serving the town under contract, with paid paramedics and EMTs supplemented by volunteers — about 1,000 calls a year.

WellNow Urgent Care — Troy
Walk-in urgent care for non-emergency illness and injury, the closest option to the hamlet (in central Troy). Confirm current hours online before you go.
Hannaford Pharmacy — Lansingburgh
Full-service pharmacy inside the Hannaford supermarket, the closest in the 12182 ZIP. Walgreens (869 2nd Ave) and CVS (461 2nd Ave) are also nearby in Lansingburgh. Call ahead to confirm pharmacy-counter hours.

A smaller branch office just up Route 40 in Melrose — the closest USPS counter to Speigletown for stamps, drop-offs, and shipping.
DMV — Rensselaer County (Troy office)
The closest DMV to Speigletown — the county-run office in Troy, about 15 minutes down Route 40. Licenses, registrations, plates, and permits; doing your DMV business at a county office (rather than online with the state) keeps a share of the fees in Rensselaer County. Many renewals can also be done at dmv.ny.gov.
💡 REAL ID / Enhanced licenses: Rensselaer County residents only, and not processed after 3:00 PM. A second full-service county office is at 99 Troy Road, East Greenbush (same hours). The Hoosick Falls satellite is currently suspended.

Town of Schaghticoke Highway Department
Superintendent Shawn Hayes and crew maintain 88 miles of town roads: snow and ice removal (8 routes), pothole and road repair, drainage and storm drains, signs, and brush cutting. Report a pothole, a missing road sign, a clogged catch basin, or a mailbox damaged by plowing. Summer hours 6am–4:30pm Mon–Thu; winter hours 6am–2:30pm Mon–Fri.

Schools
Lansingburgh Central School District
The district serving many Speigletown families (ZIP 12182) — home of the Knights. Its four schools are Rensselaer Park and Turnpike elementary schools, Knickerbacker Middle School, and Lansingburgh High School. Programs include 3- and 4-year-old pre-K, before- and after-school care, Career & Technical Education, and a free summer meal program.

Hudson Valley Community College — High School Programs
The community college a few minutes south in Troy partners with area high schools so students can earn college credit early: College in the High School (college courses for juniors and seniors), Smart Scholars early college (24–60 credits before graduation), six-year P-TECH programs in STEM career pathways, the Questar III STEM High School housed on the HVCC campus, and an Early Admission Program.

The public school district serving the Brunswick side of the Speigletown area, across the town line from the Schaghticoke side (which is Lansingburgh CSD). Its schools are Tamarac Elementary (PreK–5) and Tamarac Secondary (grades 6–12).

💡 National Grid delivers all gas and electricity here — there is no competing utility. Under New York’s energy-choice program you can optionally buy the supply portion of your energy from a licensed third-party supplier (an “ESCO”), but National Grid still delivers it, bills you, and handles every emergency.

Town of Schaghticoke — Water & Sewer
Municipal water and sewer service for town water customers. Water operator: Jake Fort. Billing and general questions can also go to the Town Clerk or Deputy Clerk.
💡 Ongoing: the Water Department needs a photo of the water connection inside your home so the health departments can verify what kind of service pipe supplies it. Calls are confidential and callers stay anonymous. Speigletown is one of the town’s designated stormwater areas of concern, near the Hudson.

Schaghticoke Food Pantry
Food assistance for town residents, run by volunteers at the Presbyterian United Church in the Village of Schaghticoke.

Troy Public Library — Lansingburgh Branch
The closest library to Speigletown, right in our ZIP code on 114th Street. Books, programs, and a small off-street parking lot (street parking is easy too).
💡 Saturday 9 AM–1 PM is the summer schedule (through Aug 29); Saturdays run 10 AM–5 PM the rest of the year.

Troy Public Library — Main Library
The historic main library in downtown Troy — larger collection, research help, and the Library of Things.
💡 No library lot downtown, but the Rensselaer County Courthouse lot (enter from the Congress Street alley) is open to library visitors evenings after 5 PM, weekends, and holidays.
Waterford Public Library
Just across the river in the Village of Waterford — books, eBooks and streaming, museum passes, a Library of Things, a seed library, and faxing/printing.
Rensselaer County Department for the Aging
The county office for residents 60 and older and their caregivers: information and referral through NY Connects, help with benefits and Medicare, in-home and caregiver support, and a nutrition program with home-delivered meals for homebound seniors plus congregate meal sites.

CDTA — Public Transit
The Capital District Transportation Authority runs regional buses. Speigletown itself sits north of regular fixed-route service; the nearest routes run through northern Lansingburgh, including the Route 923 BusPlus Blue Line (Waterford to Albany, seven days a week) and Route 85 (Fifth Avenue).
