Welcome to the community-run Speigletown website. By using it, you agree to these terms. They're written in plain language for a volunteer community project, not a corporation.

An unofficial, community resource

This site is independent and community-run. It is not an official website of the Town of Schaghticoke, the Town of Brunswick, Rensselaer County, the Speigletown Fire District, or any other government body. For official business, records, and legally binding information, contact those offices directly. Our Government and Voting pages link to the official sources.

Not for emergencies

Nothing here is a substitute for emergency services. In any emergency, call 911. Contact numbers and schedules on this site can change, so verify anything time-sensitive with the source.

Accuracy and sources

We compile information from public and local sources, including the Town of Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County, the Speigletown Fire District, public assessment rolls, OpenStreetMap, and local news outlets. We work to keep it accurate, but it is provided "as is," may contain errors, and may be out of date. Maps and boundaries here (including the fire-district and historical-hamlet outlines) are approximate and for general reference only, not for legal, property, navigational, or emergency use. Always confirm important details with the responsible agency.

"Ask Dort" AI assistant

"Ask Dort" is an AI assistant that answers questions from the town's public records and this site. Its answers are AI-generated summaries and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong — they are not legal, financial, or professional advice. Always verify anything important against the official documents (which Dort links) and the responsible agency. Your questions are processed by a third-party AI provider (see the Privacy Policy); please don't submit sensitive personal information, and don't rely on Dort for emergencies.

Links to other sites

We link to town, county, business, and other third-party websites for your convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or privacy practices.

Content and credit

The way this site is organized and written is the work of community volunteers. Source materials, such as news reported by others, photographs, and government documents, belong to their respective owners and are used with credit, by permission, or as public records. If you own material used here and would like it credited differently, corrected, or removed, please contact us and we'll respond promptly. Please don't republish large portions of the site as your own; a link back is always welcome.

Submitting to the site

When you submit news, a tip, an event, a correction, or a business listing, you confirm that you have the right to share it, you give us permission to publish and lightly edit it here, and you agree not to submit other people's private information or anything unlawful, misleading, or infringing.

Acceptable use

Please use the site as intended. Don't attempt to disrupt it, misuse it to harm others, or scrape it in ways that burden the service or strip the privacy protections we've built in.

No warranty; limitation of liability

This site is offered by volunteers as a public service, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its content.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site evolves; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
