Get involved

Historically, the Town Clerk's office has been the direct link between residents and their local government. Many people contact the office for information — or to find out where else to get it. If you're not sure who handles something, the Clerk's office is a good first call.

How the Clerk can help

Trash & recycling questions

Problems with pickup, what can and can’t go curbside (household trash only in the cans — no chairs, rugs, wood, or construction/demolition debris), and Clean-Up Day questions. Non-household items go to Clean-Up Days, April–November, 8 AM–noon on the 2nd Saturday of the month at the Town Highway Garage.

Requesting information (FOIL)

Under New York's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), residents have the right to request access to most public records the town keeps. To make a request, fill out the FOIL request form and submit it to the Town Clerk's office — in person, by mail, or by email — describing the records you're looking for as specifically as you can. The Clerk is the town's records access officer and will respond within the timeframes the law requires.

📬 Submit the completed form to the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose, NY 12121, or email townclerk@townofschaghticoke.org.
