If you’re a town water customer, expect a slightly higher bill. At its January 14, 2026 meeting, the Town Board voted to raise the water billing rate for Water Districts #1, 3 and 3E from $4.95 to $5.35 per 100 cubic feet. Speigletown sits in Consolidated Water District #1, so this one applies here.
The board attributed the increase to a higher wholesale rate charged to the town for the water it buys and re-sells to residents; the town passes the supplier’s cost through rather than marking it up.
It’s part of a pattern
Water costs have been ticking up across the last year of minutes:
- January 2025: the rate for Districts #1, 3 and 3E was set at $4.95 (up $0.50) at the organizational meeting.
- September 2025: the Hemstreet Park rate rose about 30%, from $4.58 to $5.96 per 100 cubic feet, in the September 10 meeting, also a supplier-driven pass-through.
- October 2025: the cost of a new water meter jumped to $510, up from $308, per the October 8 meeting.
- January 2026: the District #1/3/3E rate rose again to $5.35.
What it means for you
The change is to the volumetric rate (the per-usage part of your bill), so the impact scales with how much water you use. The $510 meter fee applies when a meter is installed or replaced (for a new connection, for example); the town has also been replacing aging meters, with those costs reimbursed by the affected property owners.
