Two reasons to hit the library: a school supplies drive and summer reading
Our library is running two summer programs worth knowing about — one where you can help, and one where the kids (and you) can dig in.
School Supplies Drive — through August 1
The Troy Public Library is collecting new school supplies (new items only, please) that go directly to Troy and Lansingburgh school students — including the kids in Speigletown’s own district.
Three ways to give:
- Drop supplies at the Lansingburgh Branch — 27 114th Street (closest to Speigletown)
- Drop at the Main Library — 100 Second Street, downtown Troy
- Drop at the Polish American Club — 507 1st Street
- Or skip the trip entirely: buy from the drive’s Amazon wishlist and it ships straight to the drive
The drive runs June 26 – August 1 and is supported by the Friends of the Troy Public Library, the Polish American Club, and the Rensselaer County Reentry Task Force.
”Unearth a Story” summer reading — through August 7
This year’s summer reading theme celebrates the joy of discovery: fossils, local history, family and community stories, gardens, mysteries, recipes, and the past beneath our feet — explored through books, bingo, programs, and hands-on events. 🦕
- Runs: June 26 – August 7 (sign-up opened June 15 — it’s not too late)
- Who: readers of all ages, kids through adults
- How: visit either branch to sign up and pick up materials, or see the summer reading page
Branch hours and locations are on our Local Services page — the Lansingburgh Branch on 114th Street is the closest to the hamlet.
