The road work the Town Board financed earlier this month is now happening. The town’s highway department confirmed to us that the Grant Hollow bridge repair has been underway for about a week, and that the Barton Road bridge repair is set to begin this week.
What’s happening
At the July 8, 2026 Town Board meeting, Highway Superintendent Shawn Hayes reported that both the Barton Road and Grant Hollow bridge repairs would get started around mid-July. That’s now playing out: Grant Hollow crews have been at it for roughly a week, and Barton Road is next up, this week.
That same night, the Board took the money step on the long-troubled Barton Road crossing — authorizing the repair and voting to borrow $710,000 over five years to pay for it. The financing, and the permissive-referendum window that came with it, are in our earlier notice.
What to expect
We don’t yet have a full construction schedule, or a formal closure or detour notice from the town. If you drive Barton Road or Grant Hollow, plan for active work zones — equipment, crews, and possible lane restrictions — and give the road crews room. We’ve asked the town about the expected duration and any closures, and we’ll update this story as we learn more.
