The Town Board of the Town of Schaghticoke met in regular session at the Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose, on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.
Present: Supervisor Salisbury and Councilmen Akin, Fogarty, and Ward. Absent: Councilman Rustin.
Public hearing — rezoning 40 Hansen Road
Supervisor Salisbury opened the hearing at 6:30 p.m. on rezoning 40 Hansen Road from Residential to Hamlet. He noted the Planning Board had recommended looking at more of that area for a Hamlet District, and a resident raised other possible uses. The Town Attorney will look into rezoning in the Hansen Road area of Speigletown. The hearing closed at 6:40 p.m. (Fogarty · Ward · all).
The Board accepted the February 8, 2023 minutes (Ward moved, Fogarty seconded; Akin abstained). Chris Kelly, Town Historian, is researching WWII veterans connected to Schaghticoke and reaching out to their children for information.
Business
- Bills dated March 8, 2023, totaling $290,143.80, approved (Ward · Akin · all).
- Accepted the 2022 audits for both town justices (Fogarty · Salisbury · all).
- Adopted Local Law No. 1 of 2023, amending the zoning map to change 40 Hansen Road from Residential to Hamlet District (Fogarty · Ward · all).
Public comment
The Director and a board member of the Diver Memorial Library thanked the Town Board for its continued support. Library use has returned to pre-pandemic levels; during the pandemic they expanded outreach, and through fundraising and grants they purchased the property next door, which now provides needed off-street parking. They are seeking a contractor to take down a run-down barn, and erosion behind the library will need to be addressed in the future.
With no other public comment, the Board adjourned at 7:03 p.m. (Akin · Ward · all).
