A quick-thinking passerby is credited with helping a person escape a house fire in Speigletown on the evening of Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The fire broke out at a home on Fogarty Road around 6:00 p.m. A driver passing by noticed a window on fire and stopped to help, according to the fire department, and the person inside got out. Crews held the fire to a single room, and the cause was under investigation, as WNYT reported.
It’s a small story with a big lesson: in a hamlet where neighbors and passersby often reach a scene before anyone else, paying attention and acting quickly matters. So does a fast call to 911, which brings our volunteer fire company out the door.
