Tee up for a good cause: Speigletown Fire's Golf Scramble returns September 26

The Speigletown District Volunteer Fire Company’s annual Golf Scramble is back — Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Frear Park Municipal Golf Course in Troy. It’s a full day out for a good cause: 18 holes with a cart, lunch at the turn, and dinner with an awards presentation to close things out. And this year every dollar goes toward something worth saving — a rehab of the company’s 1936 American LaFrance fire truck.

Why it matters

The LaFrance still turns out for parades and members' funerals — the reason it's worth restoring.

The 1936 American LaFrance isn’t just a showpiece. The company still brings it out for special events — parades, and funerals for past members. Keeping it road-worthy takes real work, and the Golf Scramble is a big part of how the volunteers pay for it.

Reflecting on last year’s outing, the company shared:

“Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2025 Golf Scramble. It was a great day, and you helped raise money to support our training, to benefit the community. We look forward to seeing you next year.”

How to pay

Checks can be made out to “Speigletown District Volunteer Fire Company” and mailed to 146 Speigletown Rd., Troy, NY 12182, or hand-delivered to a tournament organizer. Venmo is accepted at @Speigletown_Vol_Fire_Co, and credit-card/PayPal payments are available (a 3% processing fee applies). Cash can be dropped off at the firehouse Thursdays, 7–9 PM — please don’t mail cash.

See it on our community calendar, and read more about the fleet on the Fire Department apparatus page.
