State Police and Rensselaer County sheriff’s deputies spent the afternoon of Wednesday, September 23 searching the woods and roads around Chain Mountain Road in Poestenkill for a 39-year-old man who, police said, had left a home carrying two long guns after a dispute.
The search ran roughly five hours. He was located about 6:50 p.m., unarmed, and the two guns were recovered nearby. Police said an order of protection already barred him from possessing firearms. He was charged with second-degree bail jumping, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of second-degree criminal contempt, arraigned in Sand Lake Town Court, and held on $50,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond or a $500,000 partially secured bond.
No one was hurt. Poestenkill is a half hour south of us, but the pattern is one worth noting for any rural neighborhood: a search like this can close roads and keep people indoors for an afternoon with little warning. Signing up for emergency alerts, covered on our emergency preparedness page, is how you hear about it in time.
