A 13-year-old was caught with a handgun at 5th Avenue and 102nd Street, Troy police say
Troy police report that on Thursday, October 8, at about 8:37 p.m., detectives from the department’s Project Sentinel unit tried to stop a 13-year-old near 5th Avenue and 102nd Street in Lansingburgh. The boy ran, police said, and was caught a short distance away with a handgun.
He was charged in juvenile court with the equivalents of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony for an adult, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration. Police did not say where the gun came from. Mayor Carmella Mantello praised the arrest in a statement.
Project Sentinel is the police unit named in several recent Troy gun arrests, including an illegal handgun arrest at Park and Cragin Avenues on October 6 reported by CBS6. For readers in Speigletown, 102nd Street is about three miles south of the hamlet on the same Route 40 corridor.
We do not name juveniles, and nothing here should be read as a conclusion about guilt; the charges are allegations in a juvenile proceeding.
