The Hawks are 8-3-1: a midseason check on Hoosic Valley and Lansingburgh fall sports

Two things to get out of the way first. The teams from Hoosic Valley are now the Hawks, the name students picked over Bluejays, Eagles and Wolves, and the schedule sites have caught up. And the fall is going well for most of them.

Hoosic Valley

Boys soccer is the story. The Hawks are 8-3-1 overall and 5-2 in the Wasaren League, and they have not allowed a goal in three games: 1-0 over Tamarac on September 15, 2-0 over Mechanicville on September 29, and 2-0 over Saratoga Catholic on Saturday, October 3. Senior Night is Monday, October 5 at the high school field; if you are going to see one game this fall, that is the one.

Girls soccer is 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the league, right in the hunt for a sectional seed. Volleyball is 9-9-2 after sweeping Tamarac on October 2, 4-4 in league play.

Football has had a harder road, including a 29-0 loss to Rockland Central on September 26 after an opening loss to Taconic Hills. The Hawks host Catskill and Cairo-Durham’s combined team Friday, October 9 at 7 p.m.

Lansingburgh

The Knights are 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Class B after a 49-28 loss at Fonda-Fultonville on October 2 in which Jakee McDonald ran for 81 yards and three touchdowns and Henry Sweet added a 34-yard scoring run. Earlier they fell 33-7 at La Salle on September 25. Next up: at Ichabod Crane on Friday, October 9, then home against Averill Park on Friday, October 16, a good night to see what May’s $4.05 million capital project, which included the football field, has changed. Boys soccer has beaten Troy twice, 2-1 and 4-0.

What is next

Section 2 soccer and volleyball sectionals begin in mid-October, with brackets set around the 12th. We will post the Hawks’ and Knights’ seeds and first-round dates when the section releases them.
