Hannaford’s website, app and To Go pickup are down after a cyberattack on its parent company. The Lansingburgh store and pharmacy are open.
If you tried to place a Hannaford To Go order this week and got a maintenance page, this is why. Ahold Delhaize, the Dutch grocery company that owns Hannaford, Stop & Shop, Food Lion and Giant, said on Monday, October 12 that it “is experiencing a security issue within its network” and that it had taken some systems offline to protect them. An update on October 13, revised October 14, said the company has begun “a controlled re-launch of certain systems,” that the effect “differs per brand,” and that it has “no evidence at this moment that customer, associate and partner data was taken.” The investigation is continuing and the company has given no timeline.
What that looks like at Hannaford, according to notices on the chain’s website reported by Hudson Valley radio station The Wolf on October 14: the website, the mobile app, and Hannaford To Go pickup and delivery are unavailable, and customers whose online orders cannot be filled are being refunded. Stop & Shop’s site and app are down too, while its stores, pharmacies and gas stations are operating normally. When we tried hannaford.com and stopandshop.com on October 15, both refused the connection.
For the store we actually use
The Hannaford at 9 126th Street in Lansingburgh, the nearest full supermarket and pharmacy to Speigletown, is open its usual hours, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the pharmacy is on its regular schedule (the store’s own page carries no outage notice). If you rely on To Go pickup, plan to shop in person or call the store at 518-233-8196 before driving down; the pharmacy is 518-233-8296. The My Hannaford Rewards app may not load, so expect to give your phone number at the register if you want the discounts applied, and keep receipts in case points need fixing later.
What to watch for
The company says it has seen no sign of stolen data, and that may hold. Even so, the week after any announced breach is when scam emails and texts dressed up as the affected company tend to appear. Hannaford will not ask you to confirm a password or card number by text or email; if a message does, go to the store or the company’s published phone line instead of the link. If you have a Hannaford or Stop & Shop account with a password you reuse elsewhere, this is a reasonable week to change the others.
We will update this when Ahold Delhaize says the systems are back or says anything different about customer data.
