The Speigletown District Volunteer Fire Company gathered for its annual installation banquet at The Desmond in Colonie, where members were recognized for service and longevity — and where Rensselaer County presented a commendation honoring the company’s volunteers.
The commendation, from County Executive Steve McLaughlin, was presented by Director of Operations Richard Crist and Deputy Bureau of Public Safety Director Edward Heffern, with County Court Judge Debra Young also on hand. The county thanked Chief Dean Rysedorph, President Justin Bounds, and all members and supporters “for their courage and hard work in protecting residents.”
The banquet also marked a change at the top. Chief Larry Funk stepped down after five years of service — years in which his grant-writing saved district taxpayers several million dollars — and Dean Rysedorph took over as chief for 2026.
