Early voting opens Saturday. The nearest site is the Brunswick town office, and Saturday is also the last day to register.

Early voting for the November 3 election starts Saturday, October 24 and runs through Sunday, November 1. Any registered voter in Rensselaer County can vote at any of the county’s three sites on any of those nine days, no reason required.

Where and when

  • Town of Brunswick Office Building, 336 Town Office Road, Troy. The closest site for Speigletown and Melrose: down Route 40 to Route 7, then east.
  • 500 Federal Street, Troy.
  • Schodack Town Hall, 265 Schuurman Road, Castleton.

Hours are the same at all three: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and 9 to 5 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. There is no early voting on Monday, November 2.

Saturday is a deadline too

October 24 is the last day to register to vote in this election, and the last day to request an early-mail or absentee ballot online or by mail. The application has to reach the county board that day, not be postmarked by it. Registration forms go to the Board of Elections at its new address, 116 Pinewoods Avenue, Troy, which is also open during all early voting hours for anyone who wants to apply for an absentee ballot in person; that in-person window runs through Monday, November 2. The board’s phone is 518-270-2990.

Check your registration at the state’s voter lookup, register at elections.ny.gov, or request a mail ballot through the state’s early mail ballot portal.

On the ballot

Governor, Congress, our State Senate and Assembly seats, two Supreme Court seats and more. Our voter guide walks through every race and has the Election Day poll sites by district, including the Speigletown firehouse for District 6.

How it is going in Rensselaer County

  • Through Monday, October 26 (the first three days): 5,881 voters in Rensselaer County, compared with 3,243 over the first three days of early voting in 2022, an increase of about 81 percent. Statewide, 703,055 people had voted, up from 369,576 at the same point in 2022. Figures released by the state Board of Elections, as reported by CBS6 on October 27.

We will update this line as new county totals are reported. Early voting continues through Sunday, November 1.

How early voting is going elsewhere

Early and mail voting is already under way in a number of states, and Hearst’s Get the Facts data team is keeping a running state-by-state tally from the University of Florida Election Lab, which has tracked early voting since 2008. New York’s numbers will start showing up there once the polls open Saturday; the state Board of Elections publishes county counts each day of the early voting period, and we will post Rensselaer County’s as they come in.
