Unofficial summary. This is a community summary of the town's official minutes, provided so the record is searchable and readable. It condenses the meeting and may omit detail. Some private individuals’ personal details have been left out. The official signed PDF is the complete record of authority.

The Town Board of the Town of Schaghticoke met in regular session on September 9, 2026 at the Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose, at 6:30 p.m.

Present: Supervisor Salisbury; Councilmen Akin, Fogarty, Rustin, and Ward.

To accept the minutes of the August 12, 2026 meeting. Resolution: Fogarty · Second: Rustin · Ayes: All · Nays: None · Abstain: Akin. (Councilman Akin was absent from the August meeting.)

Reports from department heads

Town Historian Chris Kelly reported on the 350th anniversary of the Witenagemot Peace Tree celebration. She was presented with a Resolution of the Peace Treaty from the Abenaki people; it will be framed and displayed in the Town Hall.

Highway Superintendent Shawn Hayes was absent, so there was no highway, water, or sewer report.

Public comment

A Pleasantdale resident asked about Local Law No. 3 of 2026, “Chapter 92, Noise,” and was provided with a copy of the law. There was no other public comment.

(The minutes refer to the noise law by its local-law number. They do not address its filing with the Secretary of State, which is what puts a local law into effect; see our Chapter 92 page for the current status.)

Not on the agenda

The garbage and recycling collection contract for 2027 and 2028, which the Board said in August it expected to award at this meeting, did not come up. See our coverage for what happens next.

Adjourned at 6:39 p.m. Resolution: Fogarty · Second: Rustin · Ayes: All · Nays: None.

Approved minutes: the town replaced its draft with the approved version (accepted at the October 14, 2026 meeting), and the link above points to that copy. The text is unchanged from the draft apart from the removal of the draft watermark.
