Office of the Town Board, Town of Schaghticoke — January 8, 2020, at the Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose, NY, at 6:30 PM. Present were Supervisor Salisbury and Councilmen Akin, Fogarty, Rustin, and Westhead.

Business

  • Minutes of the December 2019 meeting approved as presented (Akin · Rustin — Ayes: all; Nays: none).
  • Bills from the Town Clerk approved from the Scheduled Payment Report dated January 8, 2020, total $317,809.86 (Akin · Rustin — Ayes: all; Nays: none).

Reports

  • Diver Memorial Library annual report: Angela Ross-Hixon spoke about the positive changes she has seen in the Schaghticoke area, noting the library celebrated its 80th anniversary in the fall. Library Director Nick Matulis described the growth of library programs from 37 in 2007 to 106 in 2019 and his focus on making connections with patrons — helping elderly residents without local family, recording work the children wrote, and keeping children engaged over the summer.
  • Town Historian: Chris Kelly spoke about her research on the many farms the Baucus family owned, including the land the Town Hall sits on, and how most of the sons were involved in local government, agriculture, and business.

Actions

  • The Town Board noted it is looking to amend the parking law for handicapped parking.
  • Amend Zoning Law — set a public hearing for February 12, 2020 at 6:30 PM to rezone 943 NY Route 40 from Residential Agriculture to Highway Commercial (Westhead · Rustin — Ayes: all; Nays: none).
