Office of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Town of Schaghticoke — January 3, 2019, at the Town Hall, 290 Northline Drive, Melrose. The meeting opened at 7:30 p.m.
Present: Ed McDonough (Chairman), Jason Shover, Rich Geddis, Kristin Griswold, and Lettie Saheim. Absent: none. Also present: Kristin Pratt (Deputy Town Attorney) and Elizabeth Hale (Clerk). Newly appointed Town Supervisor Tim Salisbury attended to introduce himself and meet the Board.
Regular meeting
- December 6, 2018 minutes accepted as submitted (Saheim · Griswold — Ayes: McDonough, Geddis, Griswold, Saheim, Shover; Nays: none).
Chairman McDonough noted there were no new applications submitted, but one inquiry.
Other
- Tiny houses. A realtor asked whether the Town Zoning Code includes any regulations on the location of “tiny houses” (dwellings under the Code’s 600-square-foot minimum). The Board acknowledged such houses may remain on wheels or be sited permanently, agreed they do not meet the definition of a mobile home, and concluded there are currently no zoning regulations specific to siting tiny houses on parcels within the Town.
- Fence-height concern. Chairman McDonough reviewed, with the Board and the Town Supervisor, a conversation he had had with a resident regarding a fence the resident erected along his property line. The fence ranges from approximately 8 feet to 9½ feet in height and exceeds the Zoning Code limit; the resident said he built it to protect his family from a neighbor and that outdoor cameras he installed were removed. Having received no further response from the resident, Mr. McDonough said he may contact Code Enforcement Officer Brian Davidson regarding the height violation.
- The next meeting to review the Zoning Code draft was set for January 17, 2019 at 6:00 p.m., with discussion of the purpose and scope of the review.
- Supervisor Salisbury noted the Town Board changed its meeting time from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., continuing on the second Wednesday of the month.
- A member of the public remarked that she was pleased the online minutes are current and offered to volunteer her services to the Town.
